TWELVE HILLVIEW FARMS BULLS DESIGNATED AS CLA TRAIT LEADERS
The Canadian Limousin Association (CLA) publishes trait leader lists for Proven Sires, Proven Dams and Young Sires for 15 traits measured by the association. 12 of Hillview Farms' walking sires, as well as home-raised bulls in use in our program, consistently ranked in the top as trait leaders.
BULLS WITH TOP RANKING EPDS
Hillview Farms' sires were represented in each of the 15 categories for a total of 51 trait leader designations. A testament to the longevity of the Hillview herd, a total of 8 Hillview bulls are trait leaders in the stayability category.
BULLS WITH CALVING EASE & PERFORMANCE
Four bulls ranked in the top of the breed for calving ease, with two each on the birth weight and calving ease maternal lists. Four of our current herd sires are trait leaders in the weaning weight category, with one ranking #1. The yearling weight category lists four Hillview sires with one ranking #3. Two bulls rank in the top of the milk category, and three are listed for superior total maternal EPD. Three bulls came out on top in docility.
BULLS THAT BREED CARCASS QUALITY
Limousin is indeed the carcass breed, and the Hillview Farms breeding program has held true to the qualities that the breed is renowned for. Five Hillview sires ranked in the top of the ribeye area category, while four of those bulls also made the carcass weight list. Three sires were listed as marbling trait leaders and one sire ranked as a fat and yield grade trait leader.
LIMOUSIN BULLS WITH 6 OR MORE TRAIT LEADER DESIGNATIONS
Hansen's Dozer SEH 7D, proves he is the all-around champion that we know him to be, with 8 trait leader designations for calving ease, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, stayability, milk, total maternal, docility and marbling.
EDW Distributer RWK 641D, is an impressive bull in phenotype, and in proven performance of his progeny. He earned the #1 spot in the breed for weaning weight and #3 for yearling weight. He also ranked as a leader in stayability, scrotal, docility, carcass weight, and ribeye area.
Richmond Zodiac SRD 202E, has quickly rose to the top as one of leading herd sires. With only his second calf crop arriving now in 2021, he claimed honours in the calving ease, stayability, total maternal, carcass weight, ribeye area, fat and yield grade categories. He is proving himself to be an easy calving sire with phenomenal performing progeny that have the goods under their hide.
Hillview Fully Loaded RGK 420F, a home-raised son of Distributer that we walk in our herd, ranked in the top of the weaning weight, yearling weight, stayability, docility, ribeye area and marbling trait leader categories.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADIAN LIMOUSIN ASSOCIATION TRAIT LEADERS
For a bull to be recognized as a CLA Trait Leader, he must have met the specific requirements set forth by the CLA. Only 'active sires' with a LIMCAN prefix that have produced a calf born between January 1, 2018 and January 11, 2021 were considered for the list published in January 2021. The 'Proven Sire' list are sires that have achieved an accuracy on WW EPD greater than 0.50. The 'Young Sire' list are sires that hold an accuracy on WW EPD less than 0.50. Only the top 40 animals for each trait are included on each trait leader list.
